Why do Buttons do what they do?

Picture
When I created Simply Declare Travel App it was my goal to ensure the user has a simple way to manage their declarable travel purchases and make sure the app work properly and efficiently. That being said, there is no way I can please every single user out there.

Simply Declare has a couple of buttons which seem to be causing some confusion. The “Start New Trip” button clears all the information from the trip and reloads the app to start detailing new purchases on a different trip. The “Start New Trip” button is the largest of the buttons in the interface because I wanted to ensure the user didn't accidentally hit the button and have to restart the input of items. I also put in a secondary question to make sure the user really wanted to start and delete the trip information. This “hitch” gives the user a split second to make sure they are hitting the right button.

When the app opens you put in your perimeters of what your home currency is, and then what you want to limit your purchase amount to. Once you hit “done” the app is ready to go and by simply tapping the top right key of “items” you’re good to go.  Now, if you hit “Start New Trip” you will cause yourself the go-around, which can be quite frustrating.

Another button where there is a “hitch” in it is the “Delete” key for editing any item in the list. I again wanted to give the user a “second” to make sure they really want to delete an item because you don’t want to have to redo your items and try to remember what you did if you are away for long periods of time.

I want the user to know that the app was extensively tried and tested and I have made sure the user gets the best information for tracking their declarable purchases.
